Interpretive Hikes

Themed Hikes

I love to introduce the public to nature through first hand exposure by leading hikes into natural areas.  I have led hikes for many groups including Ontario Nature, Ontario Field Botanists, Quest Nature Tours, North Durham Nature, Durham Region Field Naturalists, Friends of Nonquon, and others.  Hike themes may be on general nature or can focus on learning about a particular group of organisms such as mushrooms, birds, animal tracks, butterflies, aquatic invertebrates, or wildflowers.  Please contact me about topics of interest to you.

Bioblitzes

I am also a Bioblitz leader.  A Bioblitz is a coordinated effort to document all the species of flora and fauna in a given area over a one or two day period.  I am usually a group leader and frequently focus my efforts on finding as many insect and vascular plant species as possible.  As there is no umbrella organization supporting Bioblitzes, feel free to contact me and I will try to direct you to one in your area.

Durham Butterfly Count Coordinator

For almost 30 years, I have organized and coordinated two butterfly counts in Durham Region.  I recruit as many participants and groups as possible to get good coverage.  I am also the Regional Editor for all Ontario Counts for the North American Butterfly Association.  Durham counts are typically scheduled at the end of June and early July.  Please contact me if you are interested in participating this year.
